BEAR TREKS

The Bear Treks are designed for the focus of finding, viewing and photographing the world’s largest concentrations of Brown Bears located in Kodiak and Becahrof National Wildlife Refuges and Katmai National Park and Preserve.

The adventure begins in the famous little fishing town of Kodiak, located on the northeast corner of Kodiak Island.

The Kodiak Island Archipelago is a group of islands located in the Gulf of Alaska about 30 miles east of the Alaska Peninsula, and 250 air miles southwest of Anchorage. The island group is approximately 177 miles long and 67 miles across, extending from the Barren Islands in the north, to Chirikof Island and the Semidi Islands in the south. The Archipelago encompasses approximately 5,000 square miles of land. “Kodiak Island's 3,588 square miles make it the second largest island in the United States (only the island of Hawaii is larger).”*

From here the trek follows 3 days of exploring by air the refuges and nationals parks where these fascinating animals exist. Each day pilot guides will discuss which area will be most promising for bear viewing with considerations being made to the weather and guest interests.

Daily fly outs will include landing to view bears in their natural habitat near streams and shorelines while they feed and search for fish and other food. Feel safe and secure with your professional pilot wilderness guide whom has spent days upon days in the field. Photographic opportunities are excellent and unique to each day in the field.

Dinner and overnight accommodations will be arranged for two night stays at remote wilderness lodges located on Kodiak Island.
